About Me
I’m Dennis Pipper rhymes with zipper (notice those two p’s together?) I used to teach computer courses (web design and development and geospatial science) at Lansing Community College in Lansing, Michigan, USA, but now continue to work with a great team of faculty that I am privileged to lead.
My hometown is Warren, Michigan, where I grew up as the third child in my family. Sorry, I don’t know Eminem 😉 I eventually came to the East Lansing/Lansing area to attend Michigan State University.
After many Michigan winters and a lot of snow shoveling, I moved to Hawaii in 1990 to make aloha shirts for 10 months. When I returned to Michigan, I graduated with a degree in Telecommunication from MSU.
As most graduates from a Big Ten university do, I went to work as a radio personality in Lansing, then in Grand Rapids. I ended up at Lansing Community College by radio station WLNZ. My interests turned from radio to the Internet and brought me into teaching Internet-related courses at LCC. My wife blessed me with 3 great kids. We are involved in our church and I still work on-air on the weekends at Michigan radio station, SmileFM.
TOOLS OF THE TRADE
I use a 2020 27in. 5k iMac as my primary home machine and as a home server for media files, backup and a web server. My work machine is a 16″ MacBook Pro, thanks to LCC 🙂 Any web development is on a Mac in VisualStudio Code. My FTP program is Transmit. When using a Windows based PC, I use the awesome (free) Notepad++ and (free) Filezilla for FTP.
